In this article, we will explore some of our favorite neighborhoods: Juanita, Totem Lake, and Inglewood-Finn Hill. If you’re thinking of buying a new construction home on the Eastside, read on to see which might be the best Kirkland neighborhood for your family.
Juanita Neighborhood
Juanita is located less than three miles from downtown Kirkland and is known for its beautiful parks, access to the Kirkland waterfront, and overall walkability.
Things to Love About Juanita:
- Juanita Beach Park offers swimming, paddle boarding, and picnic areas on its 1,000 feet of Lake Washington shoreline. The park also has drop-in tennis and volleyball courts, an off-leash dog area, and installations from local artists.
- The Kirkland Community Center has all-ages classes ranging from art to fitness and Summer camps for ages 3-15. Their drop-in indoor playground is open from mid-September to May, making this community center a great option for parents during chilly months.
- The Juanita Friday Market is every Friday, June through September from 3-7 pm along the water at Juanita Beach Park and is pet-friendly. Expect to spend hours browsing the vendors selling locally raised, harvested, and grown food and flowers. The Juanita Friday Market has hot food vendors like pizza and kettle corn.
Totem Lake Neighborhood
Totem Lake is a bikeable neighborhood just two miles from Lake Washington. This neighborhood had a major makeover with many of the areas completing full renovations. The Totem Lake neighborhood is mixed-use and offers many shopping, fitness, and recreation options. It is a great choice for families hoping to be close to a gym and multiple grocery options.
Things to Love About Totem Lake:
- The Village at Totem Lake is newly renovated and now a major draw with tons of shopping, with popular stores like Lululemon, Sephora, and Athleta. It has dining and entertainment options, including a Cinemark movie theater with luxury recliner seats. The Village at Totem Lake also has multiple fitness class options, making this shopping area a one-stop shop.
- The recently restored Totem Lake Park has highly-rated walking trails and local art installations. For pet owners, the nearby Heronfield Wetlands & Jasper’s Dog Park, a 28.1-acre park with a trail and wildlife viewing area, has a two-acre fully fenced-in off-leash dog area.
- Another great choice for athletic families, the Seattle Badminton Club in Totem Lake has 10 dedicated badminton courts for players of all skill levels and classes to help you improve your game.
Inglewood-Finn Hill Neighborhood
Inglewood and Finn Hill have a ton in common and are often intermingled, but are separate neighborhoods. Finn Hill is primarily residential with lots of greenery and homes nestled in trees. Inglewood offers more waterfront luxury homes and views of Lake Washington.
Things to Love About Inglewood-Finn Hill:
- Highly-rated Lake Washington School District schools like Finn Hill Middle and Juanita High School make it desirable for families.
- Big Finn Hill Park is 220 acres with 9.5 miles of trails. The park also has lacrosse, soccer fields, four baseball fields, a playfield, and picnic shelters. Big Finn Hill Park connects to the massive Saint Edward State Park.
- St. Edward State Park in Holmes Point is home to The Lodge at St. Edward State Park, a historic landmark building with Romanesque Revival architecture. The lodge features Pacific Northwest restaurants, spa services, and yoga and live music events.
